AI makes it easy to produce code. It does not make it easy to produce correctness.

In AI-native engineering, correctness comes from one thing:

a tight validation loop

Not “review harder.” Not “prompt better.”

Validation.

The illusion: unit tests are enough

Unit tests are great. They are also easy to game:

  • wrong assumptions
  • mocks that lie
  • tests that assert implementation details

Agents will happily satisfy unit tests while breaking the real app.

The reality: you need full-app checks

A minimal validation stack:

  1. Static checks: lint, format, typecheck
  2. Unit tests: fast logic verification
  3. Integration tests: real DB, real queues, real APIs (or close)
  4. E2E tests: user flows
  5. Runtime validation: canaries, monitoring, error budgets

The trick is to keep it fast enough that you actually run it.

The E2E testing loop

The best AI coding workflow looks like:

  1. Agent makes change
  2. Agent runs E2E smoke tests
  3. Agent reads failure artifacts (screenshots/logs)
  4. Agent fixes
  5. Repeat

This converts “the model might be wrong” into “the test says no.”

What to test (don’t boil the ocean)

Test the things that cost money when they break:

  • login
  • signup
  • checkout / billing
  • core workflow
  • permissions

Mobile app validation: the neglected pain

Mobile is where AI-assisted coding often collapses:

  • device-specific behavior
  • flaky UI timing
  • OS permission prompts
  • slow builds

Practical loop for mobile

  • run in CI on emulators/simulators
  • capture video/screenshot artifacts
  • keep tests small and stable

Tools you’ll likely touch:

  • Detox (React Native)
  • XCUITest / Espresso (native)
  • Playwright (webview-heavy apps)

Feedback channels

If you want agents to fix mobile bugs, you must give them:

  • reproducible steps
  • build logs
  • crash traces
  • screenshots/video

A “bug report” without artifacts is just a vibe.

“Full app validation” as a philosophy

Don’t ask: “Did the agent write the right code?” Ask: “Did the app still work after the change?”

The agent is a fast typist. Validation is the engineer.

A concrete template: Validation Checklist

Add this to PRs:

  • lint/format/typecheck clean
  • unit tests pass
  • e2e smoke tests pass
  • screenshots reviewed for critical flows
  • monitoring check: no new error spikes

Then make agents follow it.


Bottom line: in the AI era, the E2E loop becomes the main constraint. Make it fast, reliable, and automatic, and you’ll ship at the speed of thought without shipping disasters at the speed of thought.
